Travel This Summer, Without Breaking The Bank

The New York Times Has an Article Featuring 31 places to go for a good low cost vacation this summer. Most of them are great, however, as much as I love San Francisco, I don’t think it’s a good place to go to save money. I will offer up some reviews of cheap places in the city to visit later on, but over all, it’s just expensive.

Las Vegas is burningLas Vegas is one of the best suggestions on their list, as if you choose to stay in a hotel by Freemont Street, it’s close to the strip and very inexpensive. Plus, it’s one of the only places in the world you can get free drinks for spending an hour at a penny poker machine. More tips on Vegas will be surely posted here in the future. (Don’t be intimidated by the explosion in the photo from one of my recent visits, that’s not a normal occurrence.)

One thing the Times left out though, is a road trip up the coast of California. A trip up highway 101 is one of the most beautiful and breathtaking sights I’ve seen in my life -and I’ve traveled extensively in and out of the country. You pass Big Sur, Hearst Castle, Monterey Bay and more delightful attractions. Most of the towns along this route are small and you can find cheap restaurants, grocery stores, hostels and hotels up and down the coast as a result. In fact, I think I just motivated myself to take this trip sometime this summer if I can.
