Good Magazine has created a list of man-made disasters that are great stops for your vacations. As they are disasters, the trips are pretty cheap. While they sound gross, many of them are absolutely stunning.
I plan to visit the Salton Sea in the next year. The tourisism dried up and hotels and restaurants just sit there falling apart in disaray. It’s like a strange ghost town from the 1960′s.

I personally like Orbitz and Hostelworld, but some of these I’ve never even heard of and would love to check out like CouchSurfing. Be careful when you sleep in some hostels and couch surfing spots though, saftey is priceless.
